It has been a couple of weeks since we broke ground and I have been wanting to share a few thoughts about this important day.
It has been a long time since we first made the decision to build a new building for our children. There have been so many twists and turns. We needed to find the right location. We needed to come up with a design that would fit our needs for both now and in the future. We needed someone we could trust to build our home and we needed the funds to pay for it.
At our groundbreaking on June 26th, we were able to celebrate the hard work of so many who helped with these needs. Over 100 people came to be with us as we blessed the land and turned over that first shovel of dirt. It was a moment I will never forget.
I go to the site every day now, at least driving by to see the progress that has been made. The trees have come down and dirt is being moved. The building pad is taking shape and soon they will be pouring part of the foundation.
At the end of the day, this site visit on my way home reminds me how important it is for this building to be built. Our families are trying to figure out how to pay their bills, find child care for their children so they can work, figure out what they are going to do with their children and school. They need encouragement and they need hope and that is what we give them.
We all need something to look forward to. That is why I drive by the site on my way home. I can see how each day brings us a little closer to moving day.
Progress. Hope.
